Senator Schatz believes that working people deserve a fair shot at achieving economic security.
In the Senate, he is working to strengthen unions, support small businesses, and grow Hawai‘i’s economy. In 2019, his leadership led to a 3.1% pay raise and 12 weeks of paid parental leave for all federal workers, including 20,000 workers in Hawai‘i.
Senator Schatz also prioritizes the needs of Hawai‘i’s small businesses. He has authored legislation to help small businesses attract foreign and domestic investment, export their products, and create high-quality, good-paying jobs. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, he has also steered vital funding from federal entrepreneurship programs to Hawai‘i — including the Small Business Administration’s 8A program to support Native Hawaiian-owned businesses.
