Līhuʻe Airport Set To Receive More Than $50 Million In New Federal Funding For Runway Improvements
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded the State of Hawai‘i with $51,315,736 in new federal grant funding for runway improvements at Lihue Airport on Kaua‘i.
“This new federal funding will help strengthen infrastructure at Lihue Airport, making it safer and more reliable for travelers,” said Senator Schatz, a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and Housing.
The federal funding will be used to help complete Lihue Airport’s ongoing runway relocation project. The new money will help improve takeoff and taxiway operations at LIH by increasing the Runway Safety Area. To date, the project has received more than $100 million in federal funding.
