Schatz Statement On Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s Address To Joint Session Of Congress

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement after Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida addressed a joint session of Congress.

“Japan is one of our closest and most important allies, and our long-standing shared values and interests provide incredible opportunities to deepen our partnership in every sector. As Prime Minister Kishida highlighted in his address to Congress, our two countries are working together better than ever. That work includes expanding cultural exchanges, economic development, defense cooperation, and humanitarian response capabilities.

“Prime Minister Kishida’s visit to Washington for the first-ever U.S.-Japan-Philippines trilateral summit is historic and demonstrates Japan’s irreplaceable role as a constructive and stabilizing presence in the Indo-Pacific and beyond. As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, I look forward to continue working to further strengthen our alliance, which is anchored by our shared commitment to democratic principles and global peace.”
