Schatz Statement On New FCC Proposed Rules On Safe Connections Act, Internet-Connected Cars

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i), a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, today released the following statement after Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel proposed new rules to implement the Safe Connections Act for internet-connected cars. Schatz was the lead author of the Safe Connections Act, a new law that will help survivors of domestic violence and other crimes cut ties with their abusers and separate from shared wireless service plans, which can be exploited to monitor, stalk, or control victims.

“The Safe Connections Act is about stopping domestic violence abusers from stalking and controlling their victims thorough telecommunications. The Chairwoman’s proposal will help make sure that whether it’s through a cell phone or an internet-connected car, victims can separate from their abusers and get the help and support they need,” said Senator Schatz, author of the Safe Connections Act.
