U.S. Senator Brian Schatz seeks a legislative correspondent to focus on policy related to labor, government affairs, and judiciary issues.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities for this position include:
- drafting constituent correspondence,
- conducting policy research,
- writing memos to brief legislative assistants or senator,
- contributing to the development of legislation,
- meeting with constituents and stakeholders, and
- administrative support.
The staffer will also help with the senator’s committee work on the Senate Appropriations Committee, including hearings and markups.
Experience and Skills
Applicants must:
- have a strong work ethic;
- have strong writing, communication, research, and organizational skills; and
- work well as part of a team; exercise sound judgment; and operate well under pressure.

Location
The position is based in the senator’s Washington, DC, office.
Start Date
As soon as possible after December 1, 2025.
Salary and Benefits
The starting salary for this position is $53,110 per year. U.S. Senate employees are eligible for a number of benefits including student loan repayment, employer contribution for health care insurance, transit subsidy, car and bicycle parking, retirement plans, life insurance, borrowing privileges from the Library of Congress, access to the Senate staff gym, and personal and professional development courses.
