As of October 1, 2025, the federal government has shut down.
Thank you for visiting our website. On September 30, the Republican-controlled Congress failed to find a bipartisan path forward to pass a government funding bill, and as a result, the federal government shut down on October 1. The full scale and impact of the shutdown will be determined by President Trump and his cabinet. Senator Schatz and his colleagues will be in Washington working to try and reopen the government. Our office remains open but in a limited capacity, as we have been informed by legal counsel to the United States Senate that some functions must be temporarily suspended, but we will be doing all we can. Please note that during this time, responses to requests for assistance with federal agencies, meetings, tours, or other inquiries may be delayed.
