Schatz: More Than $19 Million In Federal Funding Heading To Pearl City To Build Bike, Pedestrian Bridge, Keep Residents Safe

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) today announced that the Honolulu Department of Transportation Services and the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation will receive $19.1 million in federal funding for the construction of a bike and pedestrian bridge over Kamehameha Highway, allowing Pearl City residents to access the Waiawa Skyline Station safely. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation following Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s visit to O‘ahu last month.

“Pedestrians in Pearl City need to be able to access the Skyline without having to make a dangerous walk across the highway – and this funding will help make that a reality,” said Senator Schatz, Chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation.
